twenty twelve - installation build

The Installation was built over 4 days and was constructed of 2 by 1 planks and 6mm chip board. Mostly made out of reclaimed wood. I wanted the space to feel intimate but also allow people to move around inside. The wall is about 2/3 smaller on the back than the front, creating a tapering affect that can only be seen once you enter the inside.

I had to cut the cables on all the speakers to get them into the wall and then re-solder them once in place. To create a tidy space I drilled holes into each speaker to pull the extra wires for led’s through.

Once installed in the walls the speakers where the only thing you could see, all the wiring is completely out of sight and the space is receiving a last coat of paint.

I decided to place the images behind the speaker. I experimented with drilling holes into the speakers themselves, but then decided against this as it changed the form of the speakers and also i was unsure where all the electronics where underneath them. The images created a wonderful spectacle and extended the individual image sizes to cover up to 5 times the scale. The shadows also create a shadow to the children themselves, a pause in there dynamic actions. There movements are now frozen and unfrozen in time by the flashing on and off the individual lighting.
